Oleg Prokofiev
Figuration in Greenwich 1975 - 1977
In 1975 Prokofiev left Leeds University and moved with his new artist wife to Greenwich, London. Whilst retaining the pale and muted palette of the previous period Prokofiev embraces figuration, arabesque and movement with swirling compositions full of dancing figures, horses, and vitalistic imagery. Often invoking familiar archetypes and figures from mythology these paintings embody dream-like states from the unconscious mind and have parallels with the poetry that he was writing at the time.
